Our Story
Our roots lie within the Association of Cameroonian Engineers and Computer Scientists (VKII), which was founded in 2000 by Cameroonian students in Frankfurt. The organisation was established to connect members of the African diaspora and use scientific and technological expertise to contribute to sustainable development both in Africa and in Germany.
As the network continued to grow, VKII Ruhrbezirk e.V. was founded in 2014 as an independent regional association serving the Ruhr metropolitan area. Since then, we have significantly expanded our activities while remaining committed to the values of the VKII network: education, innovation, solidarity, and social responsibility.
Today, VKII Ruhrbezirk works closely with public institutions, schools, universities, civil society organisations, and international partners to address social challenges through practical, community-driven solutions. Our programmes support children, young people, families, professionals, and local communities by fostering participation, resilience, intercultural dialogue, and equal access to opportunities.
With every project, we strive to build bridges between communities, strengthen democratic values, and empower people to realise their full potential.

Four · What we stand for · Vision, mission and approach
Why we exist.How we work.
Our mission, vision, and approach reflect our shared commitment to empowering people and strengthening communities. They define why we exist, where we aspire to go, and how we work every day to create lasting social impact through education, participation, innovation, and inclusion.
We envision a society where people recognise their strengths, make confident decisions, and actively shape their own future. Regardless of their background, beliefs, or life circumstances, everyone has equal access to education, guidance, and opportunities to contribute positively to their communities.
VKII Ruhrbezirk builds sustainable structures and accessible programmes that connect people with education, guidance, and support. Through mentoring, counselling, educational initiatives, and technology-driven learning, we empower individuals to develop their potential and create meaningful opportunities for their future.
We believe that every person has unique strengths and the potential to shape their own future. Our work starts with the individual, recognising each person's needs, experiences, and abilities. Rather than focusing on limitations, we identify opportunities, build confidence, and provide tailored support that enables people to make informed decisions and actively participate in society. This people-centred approach guides our projects, our partnerships, and everything we do.
